Bio

Born in 1911 in Lviv.

He died in 1986 in Lodz, Poland

He graduated from the 7th Tadeusz Kosciuszko Gymnasium in Lviv in 1929, then studied philosophy at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv, and art under Prof. Matzke and Kleinman .He made his debut in 1928 in the Lviv humor magazine “Pocięgiel “In the pre-war period, he also collaborated with other satirical magazines such as “Sparrows on the Roof”, “Szczutek”, “Signal”, “Szpilki”, “Chochot” and “Omnibus”. From his very first drawings, he displayed outstanding ingenuity and individuality in terms of form, much of it modern. In the political satire of the interwar period, Baraniecki’s drawings were among​​ the most socially expressive. At the end of the war, he joined the First Polish Army and worked with the military press. He published his works at home and abroad. He participated in many exhibitions by the editors of Szpilek and Karuzela, as well as International Humor Festivals – Bordighera, Montreal, Paris, Sofia and Moscow.

He was awarded at many exhibitions of caricature, satire and humor, including the Exhibition of Polish Caricature Warsaw 1953 (third prize), Exhibition of Satire – Polish Plastic Work in the 15th Anniversary of the Polish People’s Republic, Warsaw, 1961 (honorable mention), International Exhibition of Caricature – Moscow 1966 and 1973.

He went on to draw for “Stańczyk”, “Szpilek”, “Rózeg”, “Odrodzenie” and many other literary and social magazines. Baraniecki also created satirical posters. In recent years, he was the editor of the satirical-humor magazine “Carousel” in Lodz.

He created artwork for children’s films, including the series Enchanted Pencil, and based on episodes 27 – 39 and using earlier original designs, a full-length film entitled Journey with an Enchanted Pencil was made at the Studio of Small Film Forms Se-ma-for in Lodz in 1991.
