Envelope with ash left after burning the inscription AESTHETICS made of rolled-up papers is the effect of the artist’s performance realized in 1995 in Poznań during a seminar devoted to feminist art. The performance was a protest against the Poznań “Society of Art Historians”. The artist initiated actions with burning the word AESTHETICS in 1988, the ash was left in place or collected in stamped and signed envelopes distributed to the public or proposed for art collections. These actions were a symbolic gesture aimed at the traditional concept of aesthetics. The artist radically criticizes the patriarchal social order and the male-centric art scene, repeatedly undertaking actions aimed at canonical concepts of art.
