The unique starting material for this collage were the old 19th-century original prints by Johannes Heinrich Maria Hubert RENNEFELD (Neuss 1832 – Amsterdam 1877). This Dutch artist depicted the everyday lives of ordinary people.
The Artist is Dead added new elements to the prints. Now these images are more unsettling, yet deeply romantic.
Minimal in form, yet dramatic in content, the collage balances on the edge of silence and tension. The classical figure, striding toward a reflection as if toward an abyss, is suspended between the weight of fate and the emptiness of the background. The dark matter above it and the bloody trail below become symbolic polarities: an unknown beginning and an inevitable end. The work explores the theme of transition—physical, spiritual, and existential.
