Andrzej “Olaf” Nowakowski is a Polish draughtsman and comic book artist. He is the creator of illustrations for, among others, the Doman comic series.
He was one of the most popular Polish comic artists of the 1980s. His fame was established primarily through the albums The Night of the Righteous Fists, Harper’s Revenge, and above all the Doman series. The latter drew inspiration from Old Polish legends and folk tales. Depending on the individual issue, the scripts were written by Janusz Florkiewicz, Krystian Nowakowski, and Mariusz Piotrkowski.
In addition to his work in comics, Andrzej Nowakowski created illustrations and graphic designs for publishing houses such as the National Publishing Agency (Krajowa Agencja Wydawnicza), the Youth Publishing Agency (Młodzieżowa Agencja Wydawnicza), Interpress, Orbita, and Pomorze. He also published his drawings in numerous Polish periodicals, including Dziennik Wieczorny (where he made his debut), Fantastyka, Świat Młodych, Szpilki, Express Ilustrowany, Polityka, Panorama, Życie Warszawy, and Dziennik Łódzki.
