Jerzy Ciszewski

Bio

Jerzy Ciszewski (1916, Warsaw – 1983, Warsaw)
Polish architect, journalist, and cavalry cadet officer of the Polish Army. He participated in the September Campaign of 1939 and later served as a second lieutenant in the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), fighting in the Warsaw Uprising as a member of the “1806” Squadron of the “Łukasiński” Battalion, and later the “Gozdawa” Battalion.

Ciszewski graduated from high school in 1936. He was assigned to the Reserve Cavalry Officer Cadet School in Grudziądz, after which he was promoted to the rank of cadet corporal and assigned to the 1st Józef Piłsudski Light Cavalry Regiment.

In 1937, he began studies at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. After World War II, in 1945, he started working as a journalist for the newspaper Express Wieczorny, while also completing his architectural studies. From February 1949, he worked as an engineer in a design office, before returning to Express Wieczorny.

Many of his illustrations originate from this daily newspaper. Ciszewski also collaborated with satirical magazines such as Szpilki and Karuzela.
