Skip to contentRita Walter-Łomnicka was born in 1932. She studied at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, from which she graduated in 1956. She was involved in graphic design, working for institutions such as the Art and Graphic Publishing House in Kraków. She also designed posters and graphic symbols, for example for the Tatra National Park. However, from 1969 onwards, she devoted herself primarily to painting. She took part in numerous exhibitions and received many awards. The artist also illustrated children’s books and designed numerous posters, including for the 60th anniversary of the Słowacki Theatre in Kraków. She specialized in designing graphic symbols as well.
Rita Walter-Łomnicka’s style is unconstrained; she painted with great freedom, without feeling weighed down by form or color. Her paintings not only capture the physical form of reality but also serve as testimony to a solitary, quiet approval — a consent to the world’s form as it appears through her eyes. The intimate watercolors she created reflect her quest to find the proper form for a timeless motif. Their lightness and spontaneity result from a persistent effort to encapsulate a motif in a composition that suits the painting, not nature itself.
Her book cover designs reveal a more technical style — here, she focuses on the form of letters and typography.
